Summary Description of the Project:

The museums of cross-border area in Zemgale and North Lithuania have accumulated a rich and versatile cultural heritage, but the infrastructure of the cultural heritage has become obsolete; all kind of accessibility and materially-technical provision do not correspond with the entrusted functions and with the quality of the working environment.

The project involves 10 partners that aim to create more attractive and accessible museums by improving condition and operations in nine local museums, supporting culture heritage conservation and creating the network among the regions.

Implementing project activities project partners will:

  1. improve accessibility of the museums by reconstruction and renovation of the museum buildings as a part of culture heritage;
  2. increase attractiveness of the museums by using modern means of technologies and design to develop expositions and educational programs for different target groups;
  3. increase competence and knowledge of specialists of museums and to strengthen the cooperation within the cross-border area;
  4. promote museums as an important resource for culture tourism and foster inclusion of museums into tourism products and services.

As a result of the project implementation, accessibility will be improved in 9 museums-reconstructed or restored museum premises, which are intended for the visitors, improved administrative condition of the museums, in order to be able to accept the visitors more productively and qualitatively, the provision of the expositions and educational activities of the museums will be modernized, the informational accessibility will be ensured. Common historical roots of Semigalliaans and Selonians on both sides of the border, will lay grounds for joint actions between the historians, culture heritage specialists working in museums by exchange of information, exhibitions, experience in better presentation, interpretation of common history and culture heritage and improving the attractiveness of the cross border area.
