Summary Description of the Project:
The project focuses on socio-economic development of Baltic Sea Border Region of Lithuania and Latvia improving accessibility of active tourism infrastructure: logistics and visitor places (long and short term stop/resting places, and visitor centres). The development will be backed up by a feasibility study for further construction of bicycle route up into Latvian territory with recommendations for implementation as well as developing a joint marketing activity via development of marketing tools for promotion of the new tourism route.
The cross border municipalities involved are Klaipeda district, Palanga town (Lithuania, Klaipeda region), Nica and Rucava local municipalities (Latvia, Kurzeme region). The absence of the border bicycle route does not allow to develop velo-tourism. This does not allow this part of bicycle route to be introduced into EUROVELO 10 route to meet EU standards and provide quality velo-tourism product to ensure services flow along the Baltic Sea coast. Klaipeda and Palanga municipalities do have bicycles routes, while bicycles routes from Palanga towards Latvian border and into the Latvian territory with adequate resting and visitor places do not exist at the moment.
The objective of the project is to improve the accessibility of active tourism routes along Lithuanian-Latvian border by promoting velo-tourism and exchange of best practices in the field of active tourism between two countries.
