Summary Description of the Project:
The project focuses on common problems among youth in project regions: smoking, low physical activity rate, underage alcohol consumption. Sport is chosen as a key method for promoting healthy and socially active way of life among school youth. Touch Rugby is selected for introduction in Lithuania and Latvia since this is a non-violent, inclusive team sport, it promotes principles such as fair-play, compliance with the rules, respect of others, solidarity and discipline. Through the project partners will establish a network and basis for development of Touch Rugby sport in Latvia and Lithuania.

Within the project:
  • 135 schools in Lithuania (Siauliai and Joniskis regions) and 68 schools in Latvia (Jelgava, Dobele, Bauska regions) were informed on the project. 40 schools in Lithuania and 39 schools in Latvia agreed to participate in the project and are actively involved in the project activities. In order to introduce Touch Rugby in schools sport education resource base is established - sport demo classes established in Joniski and Eleja, Training Programme for Touch Rugby, including DVD and training methodology as a supporting teaching materials for sport teachers are prepared.
  • Two workshops on Touch Rugby training methodology for sport teachers of Zemgale region schools were organized.
  • In Lithuania 216 trainings for the local schools were realized where professional rugby coaches from Siauliai Sport School Klevas teach children and sport teachers how to play Touch Rugby.

  • Project and competitions logo and visual identity (design of balls, T-shirts, badges for players, competitions cup) are prepared.
  • Inventory (balls, inventory for referees and players) is purchased for the organisation of Joint Sport Competition Sun Cup that will be held in autumn and qualification games.

  • T-shirts with programme, project logo are purchased for participants of competitions.
  • Joint Sport Portal www.balticrugby.net is created in internet, where information on competitions will be published and communication among neighbourhood rugby players will be promoted.
