Summary Description of the Project:
The key problem in Latvia-Lithuania
cross-border regions is low competitiveness. The research of potential business
growth factors is as an important niche of scientific research within the wider
regional development studies, that offers real and tangible benefits to some of
the most remote and isolated Latvia-Lithuania cross-border business
communities. For the present, there are no established and academically
motivated determination methodology of regional business growth and prepared
recommendations for raising the effectiveness of business promotion in
Latvia-Lithuania cross-border regions.
This project is oriented to prepare
a regional model of business growth promotion factors and to adapt it to local
authorities and business representatives by exercising neural networks. The
business growth simulation program allows simulating the growth of business
with the adjustment of financing different business support measures to
determine effectiveness.
This project is intended to improve
the business environment and entrepreneurship in cross-border regions of Lithuania (Klaipėda
and Kaunas counties), Latvia (Kurzeme region) and
conterminous regions (cross-border regions), whereas the SME sector, its
development clearly has important implication for economic development in
regions.
The
project should promote:
- Cooperation between universities in the
field of regional researches;

Strengthening of partnership between
science, business and government institutions;

Creation and dissemination of best
practice in order to solve the problems of development in Lithuanian-Latvian
cross-border regions through improving efficiency-orientated measures of
business environment.
