Summary Description of the Project:

Western Lithuania and Kurzeme is distinguished with its unique deep geothermal conditions which would be very beneficial for the communal heating systems in small rural municipalities and estates if properly utilized as being one of the cleanest and most sustainable energy resources. Yet, its use for communal heating so far is complicated, particularly in small rural municipalities due to implicitly high investment costs and lack of the proper knowledge.

The fundamental objective of this project is to provide the necessary know-how for the key decision makers and community activists regarding the costs and benefits of the deep geothermal energy utilization for the communal heating systems. The main aim of the project will be implemented through the series of workshops and training events for local target groups in the cross-border region and development of a joint cross-border strategy for the deep geothermal energy utilization for communal heating systems in small rural municipalities and estates of Klaipeda County and Kurzeme region and conductance of two full-scale technical feasibility studies for the pilot estates.
